We offer three levels of raft guide training. The introductory course is aimed at those of you who want to guide your own raft. This course is also appropriate for those of you desiring to float-fish rivers that have whitewater sections. You learn paddle strokes, oaring, river navigation, and safety techniques.

For those of you seeking employment as a commercial raft guide (for anyone else who's interested), we offer a four-day commercial raft guide training course. This course includes classroom and on-river sessions. The training will prepare you with knowledge and skills to certification as a commercial raft guide. Introductory Course
Learn to captain your own raft! If you have a desire to oar or paddle captain your rig through whitewater, this is the course for you. Oaring strokes, paddle strokes, river hydrology, river navigation, and safety techniques are just a few of the skills taught. In addition, you will learn various types of rafts and the basics of outfitting your boat. This three-day course includes classroom and on-water sessions. Concurrent registration or certification is Standard First Aid and CPR (or equivalents) is encouraged. Course cost includes instruction, textbook, boating equipment, personal flotation device, helmet, and lunches on the river.

Advanced Course
Whether you enjoy rowing or paddling, this three-day course will provide ample opportunity to enhance your river running skills. Rocks and river hydraulic, usually thought of as obstacles to avoid, are actually river features that you will learn to use to execute complicated river maneuvers. Throughout this course, you will be exposed to sophisticated techniques for running narrow shoots and big drops. Because being prepared is part of your responsibilities as a boat captain, we will teach you the components of a well-stocked first aid, repair, and rescue kit. Additionally, topics on the latest technology in raft design, construction, materials, and repair will be covered. Course cost includes instruction, boating equipment, personal flotation device, helmet, and lunches on the river.

Commercial Raft Guide Course
We offer this four-day course especially for individuals seeking employment as commercial raft guides. Rocky Mountain Adventures, Inc. hires many of its new guides from this course, so if you are interested in joining our company as a commercial raft guide, you will especially want to talk to us about enrolling in this class. The first three days of instruction are similar to those offered in our Introductory Course described above. On the fourth day, you demonstrate your skills to our staff. Come prepared to be outdoors and camp away from home, as we travel to different rivers over the four-day period. Following the four-day class, if you are a new guide on our staff, we continue to provide you the training necessary to meet State of Colorado and company requirements. When you complete your first season with us, we refund to you 1/3 of the course cost. Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR (or equivalents) is required for commercial guides. Course cost includes instruction, textbook, boating equipment, personal flotation device, helmet, and lunches on the river.
